From production to contract
In the same way that man is constantly searching for new solutions to improve the quality of his life, our company is constantly studying new methods to improve the quality of our work and products which lead to the creation of beautiful, long lasting products which stand out from the rest of the market.
Today, Zintek Srl is the Italian landmark for the production of roofing, facades and sheet metal work in zinc-titanium zintek®, which is ideal for use in any situation whether it be a new project or conservative restoration work.
Since its foundation in 2003, Zintek Srl has been pursuing a path of continuous development, passing from the simple production of zintek® rolled products to the position as general contractor for major Italian works, supplying complete applications packages for roofing and facades, including the installation.
Mission
Our mission is to endow buildings with beauty, long life and authenticity, by means of our unique organisational quality.
Beauty: zintek® rolled products are the ideal solution for the needs of modern architecture, which has long been searching for materials that are easy to work and unique tools to give shape to roofs and facades, which can be bent, curved and modelled following often very difficult concave and convex lines which are far removed from the conventional rules of right angles.
Long life: the excellent global quality of zintek® applications is guaranteed from the original project through to the final installation, which means exceptional long life and resistance to any atmospheric agents, thereby ensuring that the zintek® roofing, facades and sheet metal work is totally maintenance free.
Authenticity: zintek® is the only 100% Italian rolled zinc-titanium sheeting, entirely produced in the factory in Porto Marghera since it opened in 1936. The company has always nurtured very strong bonds with its territory, and has always played an active and productive part in its life, but has also managed to develop national and international projects that go well beyond the local borders.
Organizational quality: given our longstanding experience and extensive list of modern and restoration projects to our name, our company is a highly efficient and specialized organization. We create firm internal and external collaboration agreements, always focusing on creating tangible value to offer our partners and promote our philosophy with special attention paid to our communications.
Strategy
Our visiting card to the market was elevated standard zinc-titanium rolled sheet, supplied by the parent company Simar Spa. However the enthusiastic response from our partners and clients drove us to adopt a market orientated vision in all our areas.Modern organisation that is the driving force for a specialised chain: this is what distinguishes us.
Brand
The zintek® brand is synonymous and the guarantee of our culture and actions. The zintek® brand contains our promise of the value that our organisation creates and delivers.
Zintek® in architecture
Zintek® in building
The tradition of using zinc rolled sheets in building dates way back, and is the most widely used non-ferrous material for roofing and cladding in Europe.
Zinc-titanium zintek® rolled sheet is at the highest levels for :
• Respect for the environment.
• Economic with respect to non-ferrous metals used in the same applications.
• Maintenance free.
• Exceptional long life.
• Attractive appearance.
The chemical and physical properties of zintek® make it very easy to machine and weld, and its resistance to atmospheric corrosion means that maintenance and renewal costs are eliminated.
Architectural applications
The growing market offer and use of zinc-titanium rolled sheets in Europe and the rest of the world is explained only in an increasingly innovative architectural context, with the increased demand for new materials that adapt to unusual forms.
Architecture in Italy has always been tied to its traditions, where historic town centres and monuments are part of normal everyday life and not exceptions. New buildings must share the same space with monumental and historic buildings.
Color
Zintek® has a slate grey colour which endows elegance and clean lines to the buildings in a contemporary key, enabling architects to design state of the art buildings, and at the same time when it is applied to roofs and facades it speaks the antique traditional language and perfectly blends in with the historic town centres.
Theatres, shopping centres, places of worship, sports centres, residential buildings and centres: zintek® has been used in all these different situations, being incorporated into town centres or the sprawling suburbs, surrounded by the vestiges of the past or the green countryside, but perfectly harmonizing the entire project and the building with whatever surroundings are present.
Workability
The excellent workability and machine ability of zintek® not only mean perfect adherence to any building profile, classic or modern, but also provides numerous different installation techniques that are best suited to the different applications.
Double seaming, angle seaming, rhythmical plays of profiles, staves and shingle create original geometries to highlight the value of the building.
The different application methods for zintek® are an integral part of the product: the fact the product is laid by highly specialized experts makes this industrial rolled sheet an artisan product as, once it has been laid, it endows the building with a unique air given by the craftsmanship of the layer.
This means that the architect is able to combine or simplify the proportions using a single material: a detail may be emphasised or a series of details may be harmonised by simply adding value to the surfaces of the roofs or facades, exploiting the various joining techniques.
A harmonising element
The various laying techniques for zintek®, and the different effects that can be achieved, mean that it can be matched with a wide range of materials, such as glass, marble, wood, and steel, to become the harmonising element in the entire project.
Marble becomes the harmonic counterpoint to the slate grey laminate, matching glass and zintek® combines with the technological function of the building, when, as in homes, the brick facades are the natural extension of the roof.
This possibility of matching with other materials does not just leave a formal mark, but is a clear design choice given the product’s intrinsic properties of long lasting stability.
Quality and technique
Zintek® is an alloy of zinc, with a minimum fineness of 98.78 and maximum of 99.86, copper and titanium are then included to improve the mechanical properties.
Copper increases the tensile strength, titanium improves resistance, and the combination of the two reduces the expansion coefficient of the alloy.
Moreover, zintek® does not damage the surrounding materials by forming surface stains, which are typical on facades and along guttering lines, because when it is washed by rainwater it does not leave any traces whatsoever.
On contact with water, zintek® creates a basic surface layer of highly stable zinc carbonate, which is extremely resistant to corrosion. Once it has been laid, it does not require any maintenance or protective treatments, providing the building with long lasting preservation.
The colours and surface appearance remain unchanged, to respect the architect’s planning and aesthetic choices.
Zintek® is a choice that considerably reduces the building costs, and given its unalterable colouring it also satisfies the requirements of the Architectural and Cultural Assets Preservation Board.
Environmental respect
Zinc not only makes the product stable, but also means that zintek® is totally compatible with the environment. Used on facades and metal sheeting, the rainwater can be collected and then reused for watering plants and gardens.
Zintek® is 100% recyclable and compatible with current legislation regarding environmental respect and impact.
Energy saving legislation also finds a valid tool in zintek®: the rolled sheet can be installed together with a ventilation system, to enable natural transpiration for the buildings, reducing damp and heat loss. Lack of damp and good ventilation mean that the interiors are healthier and energy is saved both in the summer and the winter.

Surface appearance
The natural appearance of zintek® is uniform, brilliant glossy grey given by rolling.
When exposed to the atmosphere, the surface forms a self-protecting layer which remains stable over the years and gives a natural ageing effect to the surface, with an attractive slate grey colour. Natural oxidation may cause an uneven colouring of the surface, with different shades of grey, however it is only a transitory condition that finally evens out with a uniform colour over the entire surface.
The natural appearance of zintek® can be changed with special surface treatments which, however, leave the corrosion resistance perfectly intact.

Corrosion resistance
Continuous strict laboratory tests are conducted which enable fully controlling the corrosion resistance properties of the treated constructions. The tests for atmospheric oxidation resistance which is given by the surface treatment are conducted in saline mist chambers in accordance with the ASTM B 11 standard, and in static humidity chambers in accordance with the ASTM D 2247 standard.
Ecology
Ecology and the environment
It has been proved that any zinc deposits carried down by rainwater do not constitute any form of environmental risk.
Recycling
The zinc that is applied to roofing or other building surfaces is 100% recyclable and can be used in various production fields, and has a high market value even as scrap.
Use and new technology
Use
zintek® can be used for any sort of building work:
Roofing: with double seaming or different methods.
Facade cladding: using various systems.
General metal plate work: guttering, pipes, elbows, flashing, etc.
New zintek® surface technology
Firmly convinced of the inborn potential of zintek® laminates, the manufacturer Simar has extended its range of products further with surface treated laminates, called “pre-patinated”.
These are highly innovative products with the same mechanical properties of natural zintek®, but with a wider colour range to satisfy more exacting design requirements. The development of these products has strengthened the excellent quality levels even further in terms of corrosion resistance of natural zintek®, thanks to the synergy between the company’s modern laboratories and the university research centres. The chemical surface treatment to zintek® laminates, gives a uniform and compact covering, that creates a barrier against atmospheric oxidation, giving exceptional long-life to the products.
The technological process that has been developed excludes the use of any harmful or polluting products, both during the processing and the final application phases, which guarantees long-term respect for the environment.
Production capacity
The Company
Zintek Srl is a sole proprietorship belonging to Simar Spa, which produces zintek® and is in turn part of the Cordifin group, an industrial, real estate and financial holding.
The factory is in Porto Marghera near Venice, in the industrial site that extends along the edge of the Venetian Lagoon, occupying a total of 86,000 square meters, of which 48,000 indoors.
The factory has long standing traditions: founded in 1936, over the years it has undergone various industrial changes that have led to the current standard of a valued international
The process to transform zinc into zintek® zinc-titanium laminate, begins with melting the zinc in the various smelting ovens, from where, alloyed with copper and titanium, it is carried to the continuous casting plant to come out as wide strips.
After undergoing the various heat treatments, these semi-finished products are introduced to the rolling mills downstream and, after rolling, they are sent to the cutting lines where they are prepared for storage and shipment.
In accordance with UNI EN ISO 9002:94 and UNI EN ISO 9001:2000 quality procedures, each working phase is monitored by computerized systems that register the process parameters and the product properties.
Each cast is identified, sampled and analyzed in the chemical, mechanical and technological testing laboratories.
After accurate analysis, the product is certified and is then ready for marketing, in accordance with EN 988 standards.
Thanks to their constant investments into plant and products, Simar Spa has achieved such a high level of efficiency, reliability and competitiveness that it is the ideal partner for all those enterprises that purchase non-ferrous metal products.
